Miguel García-Herraiz Roobaert
Deputy Secretary General
“Mediterranean countries face growing challenges due to the increasing water scarcity and depletion of natural resources, further exacerbated by climate pressures. With a view to contributing to the sustainable development agenda and goals, the Union for the Mediterranean is uniquely placed as an intergovernmental organization to address common threats to our environment and to support the socio-economic development of the region. Along with the policy recommendations and lines of action agreed by the 43 UfM countries, the UfM Secretariat will work towards a reinforced partnership to promote access and sustainable management of water resources, support efforts for a cleaner Mediterranean, as well as to promote a healthy and sustainable model of growth for the whole region tapping on the potential offered by blue and green economy.”
Miguel García-Herraiz is the Deputy Secretary General of the Union for the Mediterranean in charge of Water and Environment since July 2016.
