The core activity of “Forming responsible citizens” is the joint analysis of the existing textbooks in the two participating countries’ secondary-middle schools, carried out in partnership with national education authorities, from the perspective of civic education and equality between men and women. The project includes the production of a new, redesigned version of the current national curricula, followed by training of teachers in citizenship education and networking on a national and regional level.
The project’s long term goal is to influence policies and legislation in an effort to promote principles of inclusive and sustainable development, women empowerment and gender equality, and to prevent violence against women and girls from school through equality of education for full citizenship. National education authorities, including ministries of education, will be fully involved through the implementation of the project, not only supervising the final results, but accompanying the expertise deployed to give directions and guidelines on the products to be developed in order to ensure that these are consistent with national educational policies. Moreover, this integrated multi-stakeholder approach will guarantee the co-ownership of the final results and the sustainability of the project.
Participation of local partners will ensure concrete engagement at local level and continuation of the efforts already implemented at the national level for curricula renewal.
