18 September 2018, New York. A delegation from the Secretariat of Union for the Mediterranean will participate in the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 73), which will open on 18 September 2018 in New York.
On Monday, 24 September, the UNGA will hold a high-level plenary meeting on global peace in honor of the centenary of the birth of Nelson Mandela, known as the Nelson Mandela Peace Summit. The plenary will adopt a political declaration negotiated by Member States.
The United Nations General Assembly adopted in December 2015 a resolution granting observer status to the Union for the Mediterranean, at the initiative of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Co-President of the Union for the Mediterranean (along with the EU), and with the sponsorship of the UfM Member States. This came as another international support to the UfM’s global role as a driving force for regional cooperation and integration in the Mediterranean.
