{"id":129206,"date":"2022-01-26T20:20:43","date_gmt":"2022-01-26T19:20:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ufmsecretariat.org\/\/?p=129206"},"modified":"2022-01-25T17:09:56","modified_gmt":"2022-01-25T16:09:56","slug":"plastic-busters-cap-kick-off","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ufmsecretariat.org\/ar\/plastic-busters-cap-kick-off\/","title":{"rendered":"Plastic Busters CAP project kick-off &#038; press conference. &#8220;Combating marine litter in the Mediterranean through an integrated and strategic management approach&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\" xml:lang=\"EN-GB\"><strong>26 January 2022, from 16h00 to 17h00 (UTC+1)<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>The COVID-19 pandemic has worsened the situation as the use of single-use plastics such as gloves and masks has increased, threatening to stall and even reverse the progress achieved, as single plastic accounts for up to 50% of beach litter.<\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\" xml:lang=\"EN-GB\">The new project \u201c<i>Plastic Busters CAP:\u00a0<\/i><\/span><i><span lang=\"EN-GB\" xml:lang=\"EN-GB\">Fostering knowledge transfer to tackle marine litter in the Mediterranean by integrating EbA into ICZM<\/span><\/i><span lang=\"EN-GB\" xml:lang=\"EN-GB\">\u201d will kick off online on 26 January.\u00a0 The project was born under the umbrella of the <a href=\"https:\/\/ufmsecretariat.org\/\/ar\/project\/plastic-busters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UfM \u201cPlastic Busters Initiative\u201d<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sdsn-mediterranean.unisi.it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SDSN MED (Sustainable Development Solutions Network Mediterranean)<\/a> leaded by the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.unisi.it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">University of Siena (Italy)<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\" xml:lang=\"EN-GB\">The kick-off meeting will see the participation of keynote speakers, among them,\u00a0Joumana Sweiss, from the branch office for the Western Mediterranean <a href=\"https:\/\/www.enicbcmed.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ENI CBC MED Programme<\/a>;\u00a0Laura Righi\u00a0from the ENI CBC Med Joint Technical Secretariat,\u00a0Alessandra Sensi\u00a0from the Union for Mediterranean, Francesco Frati\u00a0Rector of the University of Siena.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The main expected results of the project are: the development\u00a0of hands-on training activities on marine litter monitoring and assessment and mitigation measures, organisation of e-course on marine litter monitoring, marine litter monitoring and assessment in 4 pilot campaigns, creation of a coastal cities network for a litter-free Mediterranean.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The project will be implemented in Greece, Italy, Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon, Spain, and Tunisia over the next 2 years with a budget of over \u20ac1 Million. <\/strong>It is co-funded by the European Union under the ENI CBC Med programme.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>*PRESS CONFERENCE*<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>26<sup>th<\/sup> January \u2013 4pm CEST &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Online<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>The conference will be in English.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Maria Cristina Fossi<strong> &#8211; Professor at the University of Siena and Plastic Busters Director <\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Francesco Frati<strong> &#8211; Rector of the University of Sienna <\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Thomais Vlachogianni<strong> \u2013 Programme\/Policy Officer at the Mediterranean Information Office for the Environment, Culture and Sustainable Development (MIO-ECSDE\/ Greece)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Sana Ben Ismail<strong> &#8211; National Institute of Marine Sciences and Technologies, Tunisian partner of the project.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><em>All the project\u2019s partners will be present.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Registration :\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"mailto:silvia.casini@unisi.it\"><strong>silvia.casini@unisi.it\u00a0<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0<em><strong>This e-mail MUST <\/strong><strong>include the following information:<\/strong> Full name, Media organisation and position, Email address and mobile phone number<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ufmsecretariat.org\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/PlasticBusters_English.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Download leaflet<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>26 January 2022, from 16h00 to 17h00 (UTC+1).\u00a0\u00a0The COVID-19 pandemic has worsened the situation as the use of single-use plastics such as gloves and masks has increased, threatening to stall and even reverse the progress achieved, as single plastic accounts for up to 50% of beach litter.
