The Ministers of Agriculture of the 13 member states of the International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (CIHEAM) met in La Valetta (Malta) last 27<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0September to discuss &#8220;food security and food price volatility in the Mediterranean region&#8221;. Rafiq Husseini, Deputy Secretary General to the Environment and Water division of the UfM, delivered a speech on behalf of the Secretariat congratulating CIHEAM for its 50th anniversary and outlining the role of UfM, in general, and in the Water sector in particular.<\/p>\n<p>The Ministers recommended in their\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ciheam.org\/images\/CIHEAM\/PDFs\/AlaUne\/en.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Final Declaration<\/a>\u00a0that the UfM Secretariat\u00a0<em>supports &#8220;the projects concerning food security considering its vocation to promote Euro-Mediterranean multilateral actions, identifying initiatives in this sector which affects the daily lives of the population and constitutes an area for solidarity&#8221;<\/em>.
