A broad selection of feature articles, interviews and opinion pieces are presented together with photo essays and fact sheets that summarize the pivotal issues surrounding water management in the Mediterranean region.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.revolve-magazine.com\/home\/2012\/06\/26\/water-around-the-mediterranean\/\" target=\"_blank\">\u2018Water Around the Mediterranean\u2019<\/a>\u00a0is a truly unique report,\u201d comments Rafiq Husseini, Deputy Secretary General for the Environment &amp; Water Division of the UfM. \u201cThe amalgamation of old and new wisdom from the shores of this historic sea revitalizes our quest to find innovative solutions for the efficient utilization of fresh water \u2013 one of the most precious commodities throughout the region.<\/p>\n<p>The report\u2019s editor Francesca de Ch\u00e2tel and Revolve\u2019s founding editor Stuart Reigeluth plan to build on the report to launch the \u2018<strong>Mediterranean Water Challenge<\/strong>\u2019 in 2013 as an international platform to raise awareness and encourage exchange about water issues in the region.<\/p>\n<p>The platform will target young professionals, students, journalists and water experts from around the sea and beyond. \u201cWe want to provide a new generation of decision-makers, scientists and reporters with the knowledge and skills to communicate key aspects of the regional water crisis more effectively,\u201d explains de Ch\u00e2tel.<\/p>\n<p>Only 3% of global freshwater resources flow through the Mediterranean region, which is home to more than half of the world\u2019s \u2018water poor\u2019 population. The Mediterranean Water Challenge will address the growing water crisis in the region through articles, reports, videos, exhibitions and workshops.<\/p>\n<p>The WASH Media Awards Jury selected Revolve\u2019s \u2018<a href=\"http:\/\/www.revolve-magazine.com\/home\/2012\/06\/26\/water-around-the-mediterranean\/\" target=\"_blank\">Water Around the Mediterranean<\/a>\u2019 report as one of six winning submissions from over 150 entries from 50 countries.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WASH Media Awards<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Launched in 2002, the WASH Media Awards is an initiative of the Water Supply &amp; Sanitation Collaborative Council (WSSCC) and Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI).\u00a0 The award recognizes and supports the crucial role of media in raising awareness of the importance of water, sanitation and hygiene services.
