26 June 2020<\/strong>.\u00a0In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and the grave socio-economic impact it has provoked in the Euro-Mediterranean Region, the need for building resilient communities and economies has become more pressing than ever. Social Economy assumes an important role in this respect, given its model and its characteristics.<\/p>\n

The UfM will\u00a0partner again with the\u00a0Deutsche Gesellschaft f\u00fcr Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH\u00a0<\/a>commissioned by the\u00a0German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ)<\/a>, and with the\u00a0Spanish Confederation of Social Economy Enterprises (CEPES)<\/a>, to organize on 26 June 2020 the\u00a0UfM<\/b><\/i>\u00a0Online Workshop on \u201cSocial Economy and the Post-Pandemic Recovery: Challenges and Prospects\u201d<\/b><\/i>. This year\u2019s edition will focus on the role that Social Economy should play in the social and economic recovery and the measures to promote its contribution to a sustainable growth path and reduction of inequalities in the Euro-Mediterranean region in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/div>\n

The Workshop will also address the challenges faced by Social Economy after the emergency and the innovative solutions provided by this enterprise model based on values of democracy, solidarity and social responsibility to the most immediate effects of the crisis through creating jobs, supporting small enterprises and tackling social and economic injustices.<\/div>\n

The Workshop will bring multiple stakeholders from both shores of the Mediterranean to share best practices and recommendations on the path ahead, acting upon the\u00a0takeaways from the 2019 UfM Social Economy Workshop\u00a0<\/a>that called for the need \u201cto generate a space for dialogue aimed at promoting and developing the Social Economy in the Mediterranean.\u201d<\/p>\n

In 2019, the UfM Secretariat organized its first\u00a0UfM Workshop on Social Economy<\/a>\u00a0in Barcelona, with a focus on the MENA Region and the Balkans. The Workshop tackled two key thematics, namely Entrepreneurship and Job Creation in Social Economy and Social Innovation for a positive Socio-Economic Impact.<\/p>\n
