14<\/strong>\u00a0March 2023, Brussels.\u00a0<\/strong>The 13th<\/sup>\u00a0meeting of the UfM Working Group on Blue Economy<\/a> took place on the 14th<\/sup>\u00a0of March at the\u00a0 in Brussels, bringing together the UfM Focal Points on Blue Economy, relevant regional stakeholders,\u00a0international\u00a0financial\u00a0institutions and donors. The event focused on the progress made regarding the\u00a0Roadmap\u00a0for the implementation of the 2nd<\/sup>\u00a0UfM Ministerial Declaration on Sustainable Blue Economy (SBE)<\/a>, as well as to present the Blue Mediterranean Partnership for potential expansion to the wider Mediterranean.<\/p>\n

The meeting was an opportunity to further strengthen\u00a0the regional dialogue\u00a0based on concrete advancements at regional and national level, to\u00a0maximise\u00a0the existing resources and collaboration,\u00a0as well as producing an overview and analysis of the ongoing initiatives, programmes,\u00a0projects\u00a0and actions. The monitoring, reporting & evaluation system associated to the Roadmap towards the fulfillment of the 2021 UfM Ministerial Declaration on SBE consists of multiple tasks, including:\u00a0the\u00a0overall monitoring of the implementation of the Roadmap, the approval and measurement of the indicators to capture its implementation and, lastly, the preparation of yearly summary updates by countries.<\/p>\n

UfM Deputy Secretary General, Almotaz Abadi, was joined by the EU co-Presidencies, Delilah Al-Khudhairy, Director of Maritime Affairs (DG MARE),\u00a0and the Jordan Co-Presidency, Mohammad Al-Sakra, Executive Director of Aqaba Development\u00a0Corporation, who\u00a0 highlighted\u00a0the opportunities to build an enabling environment in order to best tap the potential of the Sustainable Blue Economy in the region, as well as to respond to the adverse\u00a0impacts\u00a0of the environmental and climate pressures on the economic activities in the Mediterranean.<\/p>\n

Delilah Al-Khudhairy\u00a0presented the new EU strategy of relevance for Sustainable Blue Economy, “An enhanced EU Maritime Security Strategy for evolving maritime threats”,<\/strong>\u00a0released on the 10\u00a0March\u00a0of\u00a02023,\u00a0which\u00a0constitutes\u00a0the\u00a0renewal\u00a0of the EU Maritime Security Strategy and its Action Plan<\/a>.\u00a0The UfM alongside with EU DG Mare facilitated the first roundtable on the Blue Mediterranean Partnership (BMP) to discuss the legal framework\u00a0that had\u00a0been developed by EBRD and EUB\u00a0with\u00a0the beneficiary countries and donors.\u00a0The Blue Mediterranean Partnership is a platform for\u00a0the\u00a0coordination\u00a0of\u00a0interventions and\u00a0the\u00a0leveraging\u00a0of financial\u00a0resources from partner organisations, beneficiaries and donors to enable sustainable Blue Economy investments in the non-EU countries of Mediterranean region.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
