{"id":5609,"date":"2013-05-23T12:19:51","date_gmt":"2013-05-23T10:19:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ufmsecretariat.org\/23-05-2013-arlem-meeting-at-the-secretariat-of-the-union-for-the-mediterranean-2\/"},"modified":"2013-05-23T12:19:51","modified_gmt":"2013-05-23T10:19:51","slug":"23-05-2013-arlem-meeting-at-the-secretariat-of-the-union-for-the-mediterranean","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ufmsecretariat.org\/fr\/23-05-2013-arlem-meeting-at-the-secretariat-of-the-union-for-the-mediterranean\/","title":{"rendered":"ARLEM Meeting at the Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\"><strong>Meeting of the Bureau of the Assembly of Euro-Mediterranean regions and cities (ARLEM) at the Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean, Barcelona, 23 May 2013<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\"><b>A step forward in the relations between the Assembly of Euro-Mediterranean regions and cities and the Union for the Mediterranean<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>At the invitation of the Secretary General of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), the 11th Bureau meeting of the Euro-Mediterranean Regional and Local Assembly (ARLEM) will take place on 23 May 2013 in Barcelona, at UfM&#8217;s Headquarters, marking a step forward in the relations between the two bodies.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The one-day meeting will be chaired by ARLEM co-Presidents <b>Ram\u00f3n Luis Valc\u00e1rcel Siso<\/b>, President of the Committee of the Regions, and <b>Youssef Ali Abd El-Rahman<\/b>, Governor of Giza (Egypt). The Secretary General of the UfM, <b>Fathallah Sijilmassi<\/b>, will be joined by <b>Delphine Borione<\/b>, Deputy Secretary General of the UfM for social and civil affairs and <b>Claudio Cortese<\/b>, Deputy Secretary General of the UfM for enterprise development.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year ARLEM and the UfM Secretariat signed a Declaration of Intent, aimed at creating synergies between their respective activities and consolidating their cooperation. The meeting in Barcelona \u2013 the first to take place at the UfM Secretariat Headquarters -has been convened to agree on joint actions in the priority areas set out in the Declaration.<\/p>\n<p>The main issues to be debated include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>A cohesion strategy for the Mediterranean<\/b> (rapporteur <b>Joanna Ortega<\/b>, Vice-President of the Catalan Government, Spain);<\/li>\n<li><\/li>\n<li style=\"display: inline !important;\"><b>Sustainable urban mobility<\/b> (rapporteur <b>Karim Bennour<\/b>, President of the Popular Assembly of the Municipality of Algiers, Algeria)<\/li>\n<li>Both papers will later be adopted at the ARLEM&#8217;s plenary session in 2014.<\/li>\n<li><\/li>\n<li style=\"display: inline !important;\"><b>The role<\/b><b> of women in Euro-Mediterranean cooperation<\/b> (discussion on the position paper in view of the UfM Ministerial Meeting to take place in September 2013, and to which ARLEM has been invited);<\/li>\n<li><\/li>\n<li style=\"display: inline !important;\"><b>The reinforcement of institutional and administrative capacities of local and regional authorities in the management of public policies<\/b>;<\/li>\n<li><\/li>\n<li style=\"display: inline !important;\">Potential synergies between the UfM project &#8220;<b>Med4Jobs<\/b>&#8221; and the strategies developed by award-winning European Entrepreneurial Regions.
