In light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the European Commission has decided to change the format of the International Ocean Governance (IOG) Forum, originally scheduled for 22-24 April in Brussels.<\/p>\n<p>Ocean governance cannot wait for viruses to stop from spreading. To do justice to the importance of the subject,<a href=\"https:\/\/webgate.ec.europa.eu\/maritimeforum\/en\/node\/4466\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> the EC has moved the Forum to a digital format<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Therefore, the IOG-Forum Thematic Working Groups (TWGs) will be launched via online webinars between 22-24 April,\u00a0<\/strong><strong>according to the following schedule:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>TWG 1 \u2013 \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/webgate.ec.europa.eu\/maritimeforum\/en\/frontpage\/1472\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Improving the international ocean governance framework<\/a>\u201d, will meet on April 22, 2020, 14:00-16:00 CEST.<\/li>\n<li>TWG 2 \u2013 \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/webgate.ec.europa.eu\/maritimeforum\/en\/frontpage\/1477\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reducing pressure on oceans and seas and creating the conditions for a sustainable \u2018blue\u2019 economy<\/a>\u201d, will meet on April 23, 2020, 14:00-16:00 CEST.<\/li>\n<li>TWG 3 \u2013 \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/webgate.ec.europa.eu\/maritimeforum\/en\/frontpage\/1478\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Strengthening the ocean knowledge system<\/a>\u201d, will meet on April 24, 2020, 14:00-16:00 CEST.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>UfM Deputy Secretary General, Isidro Gonz\u00e1lez Afonso, will take part in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/webgate.ec.europa.eu\/maritimeforum\/en\/frontpage\/1472\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Thematic Working Group 1 <\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/webgate.ec.europa.eu\/maritimeforum\/en\/frontpage\/1472\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/a>on international ocean governance. This working group will address gaps\u00a0in the international ocean governance framework; ocean governance in a fast\u00a0changing climate;\u00a0the potential for\u00a0coordination and cooperation\u00a0to strengthen the ocean governance framework; and\u00a0preconditions for effective ocean governance\u00a0including individual and institutional capacities and stakeholder engagement.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>22 April\u00a02020.
