Organized by the German Development Agency (GIZ) in partnership with the Union for the Mediterranean and Siemens, the EconoWin Summit debated the need for a new approach on gender equality in the labour market. <\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>09-17 June 2020.<\/b> Through a series of 5 online episodes, young women from North Africa, the Middle East and Europe<b> <\/b> debated with world leading companies on the full economic integration of women in the labor market and women\u2019s aspiration in their future jobs. The <a href=\"https:\/\/summit.econowin.org\/overview\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s2\">EconoWin Summit<\/span><\/a> was organized by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.giz.de\/en\/html\/about_giz.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s2\">German Development Agency (GIZ)<\/span><\/a>, commissioned by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bmz.de\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s2\">German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ)<\/span><\/a> and with the support of the<\/span> <span class=\"s4\">Union for Mediterranean (UfM)<\/span><span class=\"s3\">, <a href=\"https:\/\/new.siemens.com\/global\/en.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s2\">Siemens<\/span><\/a><\/span><span class=\"s1\"> and 40 other partnering companies.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The event was opened by <\/span><span class=\"s5\">Maria Flachsbarth,<\/span> <span class=\"s5\">Parliamentary State Secretary of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, <\/span><span class=\"s1\">and Thorsten Schaefer-Guembel, Managing Director of the GIZ. They both <b>highlighted that 80% of jobs emerging by 2030 are not yet invented today<\/b>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">While companies might have to re-think their strategies, a new generation is emerging. <a href=\"https:\/\/summit.econowin.org\/blog\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s4\">Several statements<\/span><\/a> during the event highlighted that the Generation Z is worried about their future, especially girls and young women. Aseel Nawafleh, a 15 year-old from the Jubilee School in Jordan said: \u201c<i>In our society, it is hard for girls to find activities that help them make decisions about their future!\u201d.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Recently, businesses find themselves looking into the abyss of hardly hit economies. Young women due to enter the job market soon face huge uncertainties. \u201c<i>There will be no economic recovery without a remedy for the real pandemic, and the real pandemic is the absence of gender justice<\/i>\u201d <\/span><span class=\"s5\">stated Mohammed Elrazzaz, <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Project Analyst for Social, Digital and Creative Economy at the Union for the Mediterranean.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Companies self-assured by their advanced Human Resources policies underwent a reality check during the debates: do they provide realistic and promising prospects for young woman? Four groups of female talents from the MENA region competed and presented their solutions and quick and effective pitches<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>on how to better access themselves as a future female talent pool to a group of companies. The Jury included Malika Youssoufine, Human Resources Director of LafargeHolcim Morocco; Natalia Oropeza, Chief Cybersecurity Officer &amp; Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer of Siemens Group; and Bernd Dunnzlaff, Head of Division of the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development<\/span><span class=\"s5\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\">Natalia Oropeza, Chief Cybersecurity Officer\u00a0&amp;\u00a0Chief\u00a0Diversity and Inclusion\u00a0Officer at Siemens<i> <\/i>stated:<i> \u201cThe greatest asset of the younger generation of women\u00a0is how they value truth, stand for who they are and don\u2019t back down until they bring about the change they want to see.
