5 December 2023, Dubai – As it was agreed in the last UfM 13th Water Expert Group Meeting (WEG13), the UfM will give support within the Moroccan Pavilion at the Climate Change Conference COP28 in Dubai to the side event titled “Basin Management: The Key to Adaptation and Achieving Sustainable Development Goals” in the framework of a collaborative effort organized by the Direction Générale de l’Hydraulique, Morocco, and co-organized with the International Network of Basin Organizations (INBO) in partnership with the Union for the Mediterranean.

Focused on the theme of land use, supply, and water systems, this event tackles the multifaceted challenges posed by climate change. It underscores the importance of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a means of adaptation in the face of climate change impacts, urbanization, population growth, and unsustainable consumption and production patterns. Specifically, the event will explore integrated water resource management at the basin level and its role in climate resilience.

Drawing on experiences from various countries, including Morocco, the discussions will encompass the implementation of water resource management, initiatives to strengthen them, and financing strategies to enhance climate resilience in the water sector.

The event serves as a platform for exchanging knowledge and sharing the recommendations of the 3rd Water and Climate Conference (WCC), contributing to global efforts in climate adaptation and sustainable water resource management.
