The Union for the Mediterranean is an intergovernmental institution bringing together 42 countries to promote dialogue and cooperation in the Euro-Mediterranean region. The UfM works proactively to achieve greater levels of integration and cooperation in the region through a specific methodology that has yielded positive results in terms of political dialogue and the implementation of region-wide initiatives in which young people play a key role.
The PRIMA is an EU program for Research and Innovation solutions in the Mediterranean region. Its misson is to achieve, support and promote integration, alignment and joint implementation of national R&I programmes under a common research and innovation strategy to address the diverse challenges in water scarcity, agriculture, food security.
The Mediterranean Action Plan of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP/MAP) is a regional collaboration platform in the Mediterranean, bringing together 21 coastal States and the European Union for the protection of the Mediterranean Sea and coast and its sustainable development through the implementation of the Barcelona Convention and its Protocols to achieve the SDGs. UNEP/MAP has been working on the issue of climate change since the 1990s; one of the key objectives of the UNEP/MAP Medium-Term Strategy 2022-2027 is towards a climate resilient Mediterranean.

GIZ has over 50 years of experience in a wide variety of areas, including economic development and employment, energy and the environment, and peace and security. Our business volume is around 3.7 billion euros. As a public-benefit federal enterprise, GIZ supports the German Government –in particular the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) –and many public and private sector clients in around 120 countries in achieving their objectives in international cooperation. With this aim, GIZ works togetherwith its partners to develop effective solutions that offer people better prospects and sustainably improve their living conditions.
Ecomondo is the reference event in the Mediterranean Area for the Green and Circular Economy. An international hub where all the drivers of the ecological transition will be discussed: Exhibition area, Business, Networking, Education with an international programme with more than 120 events! Simultaneously with Key Energy, the renewable energy expo, Ecomondo will be held from 8th to 11th November 2022 at the Rimini Expo Centre – Italy, designed and managed under the banner of low environmental impact.
ENI CBC Med is the largest Cross-Border Cooperation (CBC) initiative implemented by the European Union under the European Neighbourhood Instrument (ENI). The Programme aims to foster fair, equitable and sustainable development on both sides of the EU’s external borders. With the participation of 13 countries and budget of €209 million, the Programme currently finances 80 projects in the fields of business development, sustainable tourism, innovation and technology transfer, social inclusion and climate action with focus on water, waste, coastal ecosystems management and energy efficiency.
EMEA is an independent research institution and forum of debate that provides innovative, forward-looking thinking and political, socio-economic and financial integrated analyses on Europe, the Mediterranean and Africa in an emerging multipolar world. As a “think and act tank”, it strives to contribute decisively to the transition process in the Mediterranean and Africa amidst climatic challenges, unprecedented global financial and economic crises and geopolitical uncertainties and conflicts.

The European Centre for Medium-range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) implements The Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) & The Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) with funding from the European Union. The Copernicus Services provide environmental data from sensors across air, sea, land and space, along with analyses and the tools to use them, for free and for anyone to use. ECMWF has partnered with the Union for the Mediterranean to support Mediterranean countries and regional stakeholders to address the challenges posed by climate change in the Mediterranean region by providing relevant climate and atmospheric composition data, applications, and training for the benefit of Member States and citizens of the Mediterranean basin.
Created in 1962, the International Center for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (CIHEAM) is an intergovernmental organization dedicated to food security and nutrition, sustainable agriculture and fisheries, and the development of rural territories. The CIHEAM has a long history of regional dialogue and multilateral cooperation, particularly through training activities, community capacity building, and research. The Organization strives to meet the needs of populations and food system actors that are impacted by the effects of climate change now more than ever before
The Interreg MED Programme gathers 13 European countries from the Northern shore of the Mediterranean. They are working together for a sustainable growth in the region. The Programme supports projects developing innovative concepts and practices and promoting a reasonable use of resources.

Plan Bleu is a center of expertise for development and the environment at the service of the countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea. It is one of the 6 Regional Activity Centers of the Mediterranean Action Plan (MAP) of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP). Its main mission is to protect the Mediterranean basin by guiding the authorities for informed decision-making, by observing the environment and development to inform governments and the general public; producing socio-economic and environmental studies to inform decision-makers; supporting and accompanying the transition to green and blue economies; drawing possible futures for sustainable development; facilitating a science – policy and civil society interface, particularly on the study of impacts and responses to climate change
The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation is a global non-profit organisation committed to progressing Planetary Health for present and future generations. Founded by HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco in 2006, the Foundation exists to promote a new relationship with nature and the innovations that can impact this change. The Foundation aims to bring humanity together to empower impactful solutions for our planet’s biodiversity, climate, ocean and water resources. It works in three main geographical areas : the Mediterranean Basin, the Polar Regions and the Least developed countries.
Founded in October 1991, UNIMED, the Mediterranean Universities Union, is an association of Universities from the countries of the Mediterranean basin. It counts 149 Universities coming from 24 countries of both shores of the Mediterranean. UNIMED acts in different scientific fields and its aim is to develop research and education in the Euro-Mediterranean area in order to contribute to scientific, cultural, social and economic cooperation.
Established in 2015, during the preparations for the UN Climate Conference COP 21 in Paris, the Mediterranean Experts on Climate and Environmental Change (MedECC) is an open and independent international scientific network providing information to decision-makers and the general public on the basis of available scientific knowledge. The network includes hundreds of scientists with a wide range of expertise from the natural sciences, social sciences and humanities perspectives. The MedECC prepares comprehensive assessments and synthesis of global change knowledge in the Mediterranean region and their risk, in order to contribute to the improvement of policies at national, regional, and local level.
