Prompted by its commitment to the objectives of the Paris Agreement as well as by Russia’s war in Ukraine, the EU is increasing its efforts to facilitate energy diversification and to build long-term energy partnerships with new partner countries, including on green hydrogen and other renewable energy sources. The 2022 EU External Energy Strategy, the EU Green Deal as well as the EU’s current energy diplomacy in North Africa are clear indicators of this new dynamic, which could entail huge opportunities for the EU as well as for its neighbours in the Southern Mediterranean. Panelists will discuss the prospects of North-South energy partnerships between the EU and the North African countries. The panel will showcase initiatives concerning clean energy initiatives by the European Union as well as by individual EU Member States. Examples of the implementation of energy partnerships projects will be presented by actors of international development cooperation.
