Given the “new plastics economy” which addresses the entire cycle, from extraction to design and production, from use to reuse, from disposal to recycling and back to economy as secondary raw materials.

The Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection, in partnership with its institutional, economic partners and civil society actors, has strengthened citizen mobilization within the framework of its “Seas and Oceans” Strategy, with the launch of the operation (#Seas without plastic), as part of its Clean Beaches program, which has more than 106 beaches, 45 of which are located on the Mediterranean.

The side event will focus on the governance scheme put in place by the Foundation as part of the operation (#SeaswithoutPlastic) for the establishment of a circular economy of plastic waste at the level of Atlantic and Mediterranean beaches, in the aim of improving and promoting its reproducibility in other territories.

This Program initiated since 1999 and associating various private, institutional, associative and academic partners, is also considered as one of the economic catalysts for the promotion of Seaside tourism at the Mediterranean level, favoring the establishment of a blue economy.

The Side event will know the participation of:

• Mediterranean Action Plan of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP/MAP): first regional action plan implemented within the framework of the UNEP Regional Seas Program.

• SAIDIA Development Company – CGD Group: Partner of the Clean Beaches Program and in charge of developing a set of bare land, intended for tourist and economic projects in the city of Saidia located in the Mediterranean.

• General Directorate of Territorial Communities, under the Ministry of the Interior of Morocco
