For the first time in COP’s history, the 27th edition hosts a Mediterranean Pavilion. The initiative is conceived to highlight both the urgent challenges the region is currently facing, and the innovative adaptation and mitigation solutions already being developed throughout the Mediterranean, raising awareness on a region overlooked in the climate negotiations.
Ahead of the inaugural event, environmental journalists from across the Mediterranean region are invited to attend a press briefing to understand the purpose of the Mediterranean Pavilion and the planned activities during COP27. The briefing will also provide the latest information on the impact of climate and environmental change in the Euro-Mediterranean region. Grammenos Mastrojeni, Senior Deputy Secretary General of the Union of the Mediterranean, will be conducting the press briefing.
When: November 9th, 2022 – 10:00AM (Egypt local time, CET+1)

The language used will be English. Interested journalists can request an interview with representatives of the Mediterranean Pavilion after the press briefing.
The official opening of the first-ever Mediterranean Pavilion in climate negotiations will be taking place on Wednesday 9 November 2022 at 13:45 in the Blue Zone in Sharm El Sheikh, in the presence of Sameh Choukry, Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and President of CoP27. Ambassador Nasser Kamel, Secretary General of the Union for the Mediterranean, Dr. Muawieh Radaideh, Minister of Environment of Jordan, co-chair of the Union for the Mediterranean, and Mrs. Diana Acconcia, Director for International Affairs & Climate Finance, DG CLIM, European Commission, co-chair of the Union for the Mediterranean will also be intervening at the inaugural event. The event will be streamed online here. The event will be followed by a cocktail reception, open to the press.
