19 November 2024 – Online – 10:00 – 13:00 (Barcelona Time) – Workplace harassment remains a significant global issue, disproportionately affecting women and girls, particularly in the Euro-Mediterranean and MENA regions. According to a 2022 ILO report, over 20% of people globally have experienced violence or harassment at work, with women facing the brunt of this abuse. In the MENA region, the problem is especially acute, with an estimated 30-40% of women experiencing harassment in the workplace. Addressing these challenges, the webinar and workshop will bring together experts, policymakers, and local stakeholders to discuss strategies and share solutions for creating safer and more inclusive workplaces.
Within the framework of the 16 days of activism against Violence against Women and Girls, this event – co-organized by UfM and the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed) – will begin with a one-hour webinar, featuring presentations from key organizations and regional stakeholders. Speakers will cover topics including the current state of workplace harassment in the region, regional data and trends, and local initiatives that have successfully addressed workplace harassment. Following the webinar, a 2-hours workshop will feature interactive sessions where participants will engage in toolkit demonstrations, and group discussions with experts and private sector representatives.
Specific objective:
The webinar and workshop aim to raise awareness about workplace harassment, share successful local initiatives and good practices, and equip participants with actionable strategies to foster safer, more equitable work environments for women and girls in the Euro-Mediterranean region.
