Regional Training on the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) — Edition 2

28-29 September 2026, Barcelona – The UfM will host the second edition of its Regional Training on the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) at its headquarters, the Palau de Pedralbes. Organised with the financial and technical support of GIZ and in cooperation with the European Commission (DG TAXUD and DG CLIMA), the training will gather some 65 participants — national authorities, industry representatives and technical institutions from 14 Mediterranean and Western Balkan partner countries.

Building on the first edition held in 2025, the programme moves from awareness-raising to operational preparedness, as the EU’s carbon border rules enter their definitive phase. It will combine first-hand regulatory updates from the European Commission’s competent services, parallel technical tracks adapted to different levels of carbon-pricing maturity, and dedicated sectoral roundtables on cement, steel and fertilizers — the three CBAM-covered sectors of greatest relevance to Mediterranean trade.

The training reflects the UfM’s role as a neutral regional platform on climate-trade issues and will feed into the work of the UfM Climate Action Working Group. Working languages: English, with simultaneous interpretation into French and Arabic.
