UfM Secretary General takes part in the Forum Risorsa Mare in Trieste
14-15 September 2023, Trieste – Organised by the European House/Ambrosetti Forum, the first edition of the forum Risorsa Mare was organised in collaboration with the Italian Ministry for Civil Protection and Sea Policies. The Secretary General was invited to exchange with Roberta Giani (Editor-in-chief, Il Piccolo), in a session on the economic, social and geopolitical challenges of the Euro-Afro-Asian Basin.
During his intervention, SG Kamel underlined the main challenges faced in the Euro-Mediterranean area, namely the regional integration and the economic crisis, social inequalities, and the climate emergency. He further noted that these three challenges, which gravely impact the region, can be overcome through strong cooperation. He stressed the importance of enhancing proximization/regionalisation of supply chains, which holds keys not only for economic security and stability, but also for a more structured and sustainable regional integration, and showcased the UfM Regional Integration Report results.
The Secretary General also took the opportunity to inform about the UfM Blue Economy agenda and the follow-up of the Sustainable Blue Economy Ministerial Declaration, as well as the launch of the “Blue Mediterranean Partnership.”
On the margins of the Forum, the Secretary General met with HE Nello Musumeci, Minister for Civil Protection and Sea Policies of Italy. They discussed the role of Italy in UfM action, notably in the fields of the Blue Economy and Civil Protection – they took the opportunity to discuss the follow-up of the event in Rome last June, as well as the next steps for the Blue Med Partnership.
