Navigating challenges and opportunities in the Mediterranean: students as the energy and hope of the region
- Sciences Po Paris, Campus of Menton’s director invited the UfM Secretary General to this campus dedicated to Euro-Mediterranean affairs.
- Secretary General Nasser Kamel conversed with a group of students the challenges and opportunities of the Mediterranean region and highlighted the role of the UfM in that prospect.
21 March 2023 – Menton – In the framework of a teaching seminar dedicated to Euro-Mediterranean frameworks of cooperation, UfM Secretary General was invited to Sciences Po. Paris’s campus of Menton, where studies are mainly dedicated to the Mediterranean and Middle Eastern region.
After meeting with the Director and some members of the pedagogic team, the Secretary General had a 2-hour long conversation with a dozen students about the UfM, as well as the challenges and opportunities of the Mediterranean region. He anchored this analysis of contemporary issues faced in the Mediterranean by a brief contextualization of the organization and its role in the region.
In his introductory words, Secretary General Nasser Kamel congratulated the choice made by these students of pursuing high-level studies focused on the Mediterranean area. He asserted that their will to understand better the layers and complexities of the region, and to acquire the right tools, will allow them to contribute to its development and prosperity in the near and distant future.
Afterwards, he gave a brief panorama of the multilateral institutional framework for dialogue and cooperation in the Mediterranean. It was followed by a Q&A session for more than an hour on diverse range of topics (climate change, gender, social and economic development…).
Secretary General Kamel concluded: “The immediate future of the region is challenging, but we are convinced we have the right tools and methodology to be able to face united together as a region, as one”.
