Signing of the Headquarters agreement of the Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean
By virtue of this Agreement, Spain recognises the UfMS and accords it the legal personality needed for its operations and the execution of its mandate, in addition to betowing upon it such immunities, rights and privileges akin to other international organisations and diplomatic missions accredited and working in Spain.
The ceremony also witnessed a bilateral meeting between Minister Moratinos and Secretary General Masa’deh during which both parties exchanged views on various political issues and ways for fostering the works of the Secretariat.
Masa’deh expressed the utmost gratitude of the Secretariat to Spanish authorities for their outstanding support accorded thusfar by Madrid and praised the Spanish leading role and commitment in this process. The Secretary General also briefed the Minister on his future plans for the establishment of the Secretariat. Moratinos pledged Spain’s unwavering support to the Secretariat and his country’s keen interest to contribute to the success of the Union for the Mediterranean.
