The Foreign & Commonwealth Office expresses support for the Union for the Mediterranean

London, 21st May, 2012. The Secretary General of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) held today a working meeting with Mr. Alistair Burt, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office for the Middle East and North Africa. During the bilateral, Mr. Sijilmassi briefed Mr. Burt  on the recent activities of the UfM, the state of play of the implementation of concrete socio-economic development projects which aim to reinforce the partnership between the two shores of the Mediterranean, and UFM’s assistance to Mediterranean partners in facing the challenges of securing growth and development.

Mr. Sijilmassi and Mr. Burt jointly reaffirmed the importance of this approach and Mr. Burt expressed the United Kingdom’s support for UfM working through its members and in concert with multilateral institutions to achieve this.
