UfM and European University Cyprus partner to enhance cooperation in civil protection
4-5 December 2024, Larnaca. Cyprus. The Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) and the European University Cyprus (EUC) signed today a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to enhance bilateral cooperation in areas of common interest, notably in the field of civil protection and disaster risk management.
The signing ceremony took place on the sidelines of the Nicosia Risk Forum 2025, held in Larnaca, Cyprus, with UfM Secretary General, Nasser Kamel, and EUC Rector, Professor Andreas Efstathiou, representing their respective institutions. This agreement aims to foster collaboration through initiatives including official visits and expert exchanges, joint projects and consultations, seminars and workshops, the exchange of best practices, participation in regional dialogue platforms, and the publication of policy articles.
UfM Secretary General Nasser Kamel said: “This collaboration marks an important step forward in our efforts to strengthen regional cooperation in areas critical to the safety and well-being of our citizens. Civil protection and disaster risk management is a cornerstone of the UfM’s mission, as it directly addresses the shared challenges and risks faced across the Euro-Mediterranean region. Through this partnership with the European University Cyprus, we aim to foster innovation, share expertise, and build resilience to better safeguard our communities”.
Professor Andreas Efstathiou, EUC Rector, stated: “The signing of the MoU between European University Cyprus and Union for the Mediterranean presents our University with a tremendous opportunity to collaborate with an esteemed institution in the region on matters related to civil affairs”.
