UfM MedNC Project – First annual meeting of the Second Chance Schools of Spain (Escuelas de Segunda Oportunidad, E2O)
Zaragazoza. 25 May 2016. With the support and participation of the UfM, the first annual meeting of the Second Chance Schools of Spain (E2O) will take place in Zaragoza on the 25th of May 2016.
Participants will include representatives from national, regional and local authorities and from the private sector, academics and stakeholders from social and education areas, along with members and beneficiaries from numerous Spanish Second Chance Schools such as Fundación Federico Ozanam, Fundación Tomillo, Fundació El Lindar, Fundación Adsis, Fundación Proyecto Don Bosco and Peñascal Kooperatiba.
Topics for discussion during the three round tables will include:
- “Concrete solutions that worked for me” – six young beneficiaries of Second Chance Schools will have the opportunity to present their personal experiences.
- Why is the E2O model successful in Spain? Methodologies followed by Second Chance Schools of Spain will be exposed.
- E2O: Joining forces against unemployment! – Cooperation between public and private sectors and civil society.
The Second Chance Schools model is based on nearly 20 years of experience in Europe, where it is now well established with 60 schools currently in operation. In France, the growth rate of schools is higher; 43 schools operate with a 60% success rate in searching for employment and/or resuming skills training.
The network of Second Chance Schools of Spain was constituted in March 2016, following the signature of a Manifest and a Charter of Fundamental Principles in November 2015 at the premises of the UfM Secretariat. It has the objective of bringing concrete solutions to young people excluded from the labour market without education through a recognized model of E2O.
The First annual meeting of the Second Chance Schools of Spain is organized within the framework of the extension to Spain of the UfM labelled project Mediterranean New Chance Network (MedNC). Promoted by the OCEMO in partnership with the E2C of Marseille and the AFD, the MedNC project is based on the regional exchange of know-how and good practices among accredited entities helping both young people who dropped out of school without obtaining a diploma and also unemployed graduates to find a job. The project comes under the Youth Employability & Inclusive Growth strategy of the UfM Secretariat.
