13 December, Madrid. The UfM region is performing well in attracting international public climate finance. Southern and Eastern Mediterranean countries have attracted between 12% and 13% of the global international public climate finance commitments each year. However, despite this positive performance, the UfM region still has a margin of progress, as investments in adaptation are only representing approximatively one-third of mitigation commitments. On estime que la demande d’énergie augmentera de 62 % dans les pays du Sud et de l’Est de la Méditerranée d’ici 2040. The UfM, represented by the Senior Deputy Secretary General for Energy, Jorge Borrego, and Senior Expert Fawzi Dib, participated in Algiers in the first thematic forum leading to the Summit of the Two Shores (S2R) to be held in Marseille next June, as convened by the French President Emmanuel Macron last summer. 29-30 January 2019, Barcelona. The Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean hosted this past 29 and 30 January the annual meeting of the UfM Energy Platforms in Barcelona, Spain. The UfM Energy Platforms are the only existing dialogue forum gathering all Euro-Mediterranean countries as well as the key stakeholders dealing with electricity markets, renewable energy, energy efficiency and gas in the Mediterranean region. Le Secrétariat de l’Union pour la Méditerranée (UpM), participe activement à la COP24 en Pologne, où il présente deux études sur l’impact du changement climatique et sur l’état de la situation en matière de financement climatique dans la région. Sans mesures d’atténuation supplémentaires, l’augmentation de la température régionale sera de 2,2 °C en 2040, pouvant dépasser les 3,8 °C dans certaines régions en 2100. The UfM Secretariat and the Energy Federation of Morocco (Fédération de l’Energie) co-organized last Monday, 19 November, the 14th Energy Conference in Skhirat, under the High Patronage of His Majesty the King Mohamed VI, to promote regional dialogue towards a sustainable energy transition in the Mediterranean region.
