Bruxelles, le 9 novembre 2017. Afin de prendre des mesures concrètes visant à mettre en œuvre son agenda urbain, le Secrétariat général de l’UpM a organisé la première plateforme régionale de l’UpM sur le développement urbain durable à Bruxelles, le 9 novembre 2017. Réunissant des représentants gouvernementaux de haut niveau des 43 États membres de l’UpM ainsi que des partenaires institutionnels et financiers clés, la plateforme a été une excellente occasion de débattre de solutions innovantes et durables, de promouvoir les meilleures connaissances et les meilleures pratiques sur les priorités de développement urbain commun, et d’identifier de nouveaux projets susceptibles d’être reproduits dans la région.
Barcelone, le 2 octobre 2017. Actuellement, 60 % de la population méditerranéenne vit dans des zones urbaines. La région connaît l’un des taux d’urbanisation les plus rapides au monde, et l’augmentation prévue de sa population urbaine est de 22,5 millions d’habitants d’ici à 2030. L’exode rural vers les villes et la croissance endogène de celles-ci sont à l’origine de ce phénomène. Les villes méditerranéennes sont extrêmement vulnérables aux effets du changement climatique tels que la pénurie d’eau, les sécheresses, les incendies de forêt et les vagues de chaleur.
