Egypt continues to support the Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean
The Secretary General of the Union for the Mediterranean Mr. Fathallah Sijilmassi conducted a working visit to Cairo, where he held talks with Mr. Mohammad Kamel Amre, the Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, who congratulated the Secretary General for assuming his new position and expressed the full support of Egypt in achieving his mandate. Mr. Sijilmassi reiterated the gratitude of the Secretariat for all the provided support by Egypt to the UfM, especially during its Co-Presidency term. He also elaborated that the Secretariat is currently focusing on moving forward through delivering regional and sub-regional projects which could contribute to creating jobs and attracting new investments. He elaborated that the Secretariat is currently mobilizing its efforts to raise the needed funds through promoting those projects among the financial institutions and the private sector. The Minister emphasized that Egypt will continue with enthusiasm to support the Union for the Mediterranean, and called on the Secretariat to march its efforts to increase the collaboration with Egypt especially in the areas of Energy, Water and environment, which are of a great importance to the Mediterranean region.
Mr. Fathallah Sijilmassi expressed his appreciation to the Arab League, and presented the project on Gaza Desalination Plant and the special event held on the project during the World Water Forum in Marseille. The Secretary General of the Arab League praised the Secretariat for the efforts undertaken to launch this project in view of its humanitarian objectives, and stated that the Arab League is keen to foster its relations with the Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean, through cooperating in the fields of Solar Energy and Environment.
