Meeting on Arbitration in the Mediterranean
The main aim of this meeting has been to exchange views on the opportunities of Arbitration in the Mediterranean to explore and identify possibilities of tangible projects in the Area to be promoted by the Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean.
Projects and initiatives were presented by each arbitration center and governments’ representatives; the presentation was followed by an open discussion between participants.
Mr. Cardarelli, Senior Deputy Secretary General of the BDFC Division, stressed the importance of arbitration especially for SME’s involved in commercial disputes as a faster, cheaper and more effective way to resolve those issues. Legal certainty in this field is necessary to attract investments and to guarantee stability in investments.
The meeting was attended by representatives of Governments, Chambers of Commerce of Member States and Arbitration Centers (the participants list is available here).
At the end of the meeting it was decided that future meetings would follow up to implement the basic ideas presented.
