- For the first time in COP’s history, the 27th edition hosts a Mediterranean Pavilion led by the UfM, UNEP-MAP and PRIMA Foundation with a coalition of relevant climate action organizations. Its activities are also available in streaming.
- The Mediterranean Pavilion’s activities provide an exceptional opportunity to highlight the challenges the region is facing, as well as the mitigation and adaptation solutions.
- High-level personalities including Nobel Prize awardees, Jordanian Princess Rym, Jeffrey Sachs, Prince Albert of Monaco and representatives from MedECC’s network of over 600 Mediterranean scientists will be intervening.

- Current unsustainable food systems are responsible for one-third of global GHG emissions, biodiversity loss and global water footprint. Former director of the Earth Institute and renowned economist Jeffrey Sachs will inaugurate a session organized by the PRIMA Foundation that will showcase strategies to secure a sustainable and equitable food system in the Mediterranean.

- Climate change in the Mediterranean has evident societal repercussions: Princess Rym al-Ali of Jordan, as President of the Anna Lindh Foundation, and their partners will promote the inclusion of displacement and migration in decision-making processes to prevent conflicts and to enhance social cohesion in the Euro-Med region.

- The German Development Agency (GIZ), the EU and the UfM will highlight innovative policies and best practices that ensure a just transition towards green jobs and the development of green skills in the Mediterranean region, with a special focus on the prospects for women and youth in the Southern Mediterranean.

- MedECC, an independent and voluntary network of over 600 scientists from the region and scientific council of the Med Pavilionwill be presenting some highlights from the most recent scientific results on climate and environmental change in the Mediterranean. The science-policy interface in the Mediterranean will be discussed.

- Together with stronger efforts at mitigating emissions, actions to safeguard the sea and its coasts must be scaled-up, based upon solid science. The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation will focus on these priorities and its partnerships to make these actions come true, with Prince Albert II of Monaco opening the discussions.

- Integrating gender into climate finance and policy making is a must, not a good to have. This need is among the key pillars of the Ministerial Declaration on Strengthening the Role of Women in Society adopted last 26 October in Madrid: UfM Gender Expert Anna Dorangricchia will moderate a discussion on which concrete actions the Cop27 should take towards a gender-oriented climate action.

- Organized by the UfM’s media partner RAI & Moderated by Maria Cuffaro, editor in chief, reporter Tg3, the workshop Climate Change and Biodiversity: what Science says, how Media tell will host a debate between journalists and scientists on how to make climate change and its consequences easily understandable to create social awareness. Nobel Prize awardees Giorgio Parisi and astrophysic Finzi will be participating, and the event will be followed by a networking cocktail for journalists and experts.

Background info
The Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) is the only Euro-Mediterranean intergovernmental organisation bringing together the countries of the European Union and 15 countries from the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean region. The UfM provides a forum for strengthening regional cooperation, dialogue and the implementation of concrete projects and initiatives that have a tangible impact on citizens, especially young people, in order to meet the region’s three strategic objectives: stability, human development and integration.
