Barcelona, 23-25 October 2018. The Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) hosted the BLUEMED Week at its premises in Barcelona on 23-25 October, a three-day event aiming at promoting the blue economy through cooperation in the Mediterranean Sea .
The BLUEMED Week hosted the Second Meeting of the GSO BLUEMED Working Group, the Third BLUEMED Platforms Meeting and the Second Research Funders Workshop.
The BLUEMED Initiative and its consortium of 11 partners (BLUEMED Coordination and Support Action – CSA) work together for a healthy, safe and productive Mediterranean Sea and contribute to the creation of new ‘blue’ jobs, social well-being and a sustainable growth in the marine and maritime sectors through the implementation of the BLUEMED Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA).
The event follows the BLUEMED National Consultation Days, organized by the national delegates to the GSO BLUEMED working Group (25-27 June and 3-6 July), with the active involvement of the UfM, of the European Commission, and of the consortium of the CSA BLUEMED.
The BLUEMED Week advanced the updating of the BLUEMED Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda towards the establishment of shared priorities at the regional level of the Mediterranean and starting the development of an implementation plan to realize joint actions.
The extension of the BLUEMED Initiative to non-EU countries is aimed at sharing information and knowledge base among Mediterranean countries and agree on common targets and objectives. The event, hence, marks an important step towards a renewed engagement to foster research and innovation in the marine- and maritime-related fields and the promotion of scientific diplomacy among the concerned countries.
