Jobs through Trade and Investment: Driving green and inclusive economic growth in the UfM region
- The 2024 UfM Trade and Investment Forum is the Forum’s 6th edition in six successive years, attesting to the emphasis the UfM places on facilitating trade and promoting investment to foster economic development and integration in the region.
- The Forum brought together over 100 experts and stakeholders to discuss the current realities, opportunities and challenges pertaining to green transition and sustainable trade, investment and supply chains.
7 November 2024, Rabat – This year’s edition of the annual UfM Trade and Investment Forum, co-organised with the German Development Cooperation and hosted by Morocco, focused on addressing the regional cooperation and adaptation needs in view of trade’s accelerating carbon footprint and the need to mitigate it through green trade and investment in order to proceed with a smooth, regional just transition.
This year’s edition brought together over 100 participants including a broad spectrum of high-level speakers, partners and stakeholders from different sectors of the Euro-Mediterranean region to discuss three interrelated thematics, namely opportunities and challenges of the green transition, promoting opportunities for green investment and green jobs, as well as sustainable supply chains for better trade in the Mediterranean.
During the Opening, Mr. Hamed El Etreby (UfM Secretariat) presented the work done within the framework of the UfM Hub for Jobs, Trade and Investment and took stock of the current trade and investment realities in the region. Mr. Youssef Zahoui (Director of International Trade – Ministry of Industry and Trade of Morocco) and H.E. Patricia Llombart Cussac (Ambassador of the EU to the Kingdom of Morocco) addressed the audience during the opening and the keynote speeches, touching on the state-of-play of green transition in Morocco and in the region respectively.
The key recommendations from the UfM Trade and Investment Forum will feed into the preparation work for the next UfM Ministerial on Trade. Since its first edition in 2019, the UfM Trade and Investment Forum has become a well-established dialogue platform addressing the most pressing issues and the current dynamics in trade and investment in the Euro-Mediterranean region.
