WEF 2014 Global Agenda Summit: “Exploring critical issues, shaping the global, industry and regional agendas”
Barcelona, 11 November 2014. The UfM Secretariat participated in the Summit on the Global Agenda 2014 organised by the World Economic Forum in Dubai, UAE, on 9-11 November.
The World Economic Forum (WEF) is an international institution committed to improving the state of the world through public-private cooperation. It engages political, business, academic and other leaders of society in collaborative efforts to shape global, regional and industry agendas. Together with other stakeholders, it works to define challenges, solutions and actions through its annual and regional meetings and its expert networks of Global Agenda Councils.
The Summit of the World Economic Forum’s Network of Global Agenda Councils discussed in Dubai key strategic issues including emerging technologies, the challenges of long-term investment and infrastructure, increasing job growth, countering illicit economy and improving Cyberspace, in an effort to provide a better understanding of the fundamental transformations impacting our world as well as innovative recommendations on the most pressing global challenges.
The UfM Secretary General, Fathallah Sijilmassi, participated in the Summit as member of the Global Agenda Council on the Future of Regional Organizations, chaired by José Manuel Barroso. The focus of this Council in the upcoming term is to ‘provide a knowledge base for the Forum’s community of Regional Organizations, demonstrating how regional organizations can advance and shape the future of global governance.’
Mr Sijilmassi also held several bilateral meetings involving different Global Agenda Councils on the margin of the Summit’s main programme.
