ENA Seminar
Barcelona, 12-15 December 2016.
The 8th Information and Training Seminar for Euro-Mediterranean Diplomats will take place at the Union for the Mediterranean Secretariat in Barcelona.
On June 28th 2016, the publication of the global strategy of the European Union on foreign affairs and security by Federica Mogherini, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, has redefined the Union’s priorities towards its neighbourhood. Numerous changes are at stake regarding the regional cooperation issues with Southern and Eastern countries of the Mediterranean and the EU. A more pragmatic approach, based on a dynamics of projects and partnerships, is highly reinforced and needed. In this regard, a special attention will be dedicated to the role of the Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), especially in the following areas: inclusive growth and youth employability, the place of women in society and business, and finally the Euro-Mediterranean higher education and research area.
A simulation exercise of a EU Council working group will be organised. Its purpose is to highlight the importance of dialogue between EU Member States and the quest for compromise during EU negotiations.
Speakers from the Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean, EU institutions, EU Member States and also from Southern neighbouring countries will attend this seminar and foster dialogue and interaction amongst participants.
