UfM approves a project to create a Euro-Mediterranean University in Morocco
Barcelona, 28 June 2012. The Senior Officials of the 43 UfM Member States labelled the project for the creation of the Euro-Mediterranean University of Fez (UEMF) during the latest Senior Officials Meeting, held in Barcelona on 28 June. The new University, located in the city of Fez, will be an International centre of Higher Education and Research with a specific focus on Euro-Mediterranean priority topics.
The first programmes will be related to: 1) Mediterranean History, Civilisations and Heritage; 2) Law, Economics and Political Science; and 3) Renewable Energy Engineering. Other programmes will gradually be implemented at a later stage.
The construction of the University will commence in 2014, with a foreseeable inauguration taking place in September 2015. The completion of the EMUF structure will be finalized in 2024, when the buildings and the implementation of all Higher Education and Research programmes are completed. By this time, the University will be in a position to welcome approximately 6000 students from across the region.
This project proposal was submitted by the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Executive Training of the Kingdom of Morocco under the auspices of His Majesty the King Mohammed VI.
