Barcelona, 22 March 2014. The Union for the Mediterranean joins the international community in expressing the need to find global and regional solutions to address the challenges surrounding energy and water (water-energy-nexus), highlighting the interlinkage of the two sectors, and the need for more resource-efficiency, which is a particular concern also in the Mediterranean region. In this regard, the consultants undertaking the current technical preparations of the UfM-labelled project Desalination Facility for the Gaza Strip are also evaluating power supply options that include renewable sources of energy. Tomorrow, the UfM-labelled project ‘Governance & Financing for the Mediterranean Water Sector’ shall initiate the national policy dialogue in Jordan during a first consultation workshop scheduled for 23 October in Amman. Officially launched in May 2013, this regional project if jointly implemented by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the Global Water Partnership-Mediterranean (GWP-Med). Le 17 septembre 2013. Après son récent déménagement à Barcelone, l’Alliance mondiale des partenariats des opérateurs de l’eau (GWOPA) a accueilli une réunion de coordination concernant les opérateurs de l’eau en Espagne. Des experts locaux, nationaux et internationaux se sont réunis au siège de l’Union pour la Méditerranée afin de partager leurs expériences et d’identifier des synergies entre les institutions, lors de séances de travail réparties sur une journée et demie (16-17 septembre).La GWOPA est un réseau de partenaires s’engageant à aider les opérateurs de l’eau à s’entraider pour augmenter leur capacité collective à fournir un accès à des services d’eau et d’assainissement… Lire la suite
Ramallah, 18 juin, 2013. Une réunion sous la houlette du président palestinien Mahmoud Abbas a été organisée au bureau présidentiel de Ramallah le 17 juin dernier. Le but était de faire le point sur la mise en œuvre du projet d'usine de dessalement à Gaza. Le secrétaire général adjoint de l’UpM chargé de l’environnement et de l’eau, le Dr Rafiq Husseini a présenté un rapport détaillé sur l’avancement du projet. Les possibilités d’obtenir un appui arabe et international à la mise en œuvre du projet ont été examinées à la lumière des engagements d’aide financière arabe et internationale déjà existants….
