Deputy Secretary General Ilan Chet defends UfM objectives in higher education at EMUNI General Assembly 2010
The Euro-Mediterranean University is one of the six priority areas of the Union for the Mediterranean and was established as international network of universities. It aims to implement postgraduate (master’s and doctorate) study and research programmes with a special focus on cultural diversity.
The assembly opened on Friday, 26th November 2010 with a concert followed by the EMUNI official dinner hosted by Ugur Erdener, Rector of the Hacettepe University. The next morning, Joseph Mifsud, President of the EMUNI University, presented the assembly and its objectives and spoke about the projects that his university is doing related to courses and master programs.
In his address, Ilan Chet outlined the vision and the mission of the Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfMS), especially in reference to the Division of Higher Education and Research. To his audience, composed of 120 people and among them presidents and vice-presidents of numerous universities, he exposed the willingness of the Secretariat to support EMUNI’s projects and to promote a wide network of university centers.
The afternoon session was dedicated to a long meeting of experts to analyse several projects and six master programs designed according to the priorities of the UfM.
UfMS Deputy Secretary General Chet, in representation of the Secretariat and Joseph Mifsud, are responsible for deciding which of these programs are the best to be submitted in a committee meeting of the European Parliament in Brussels, on the 26th of January 2011.
