UfM and Egypt: towards a more efficient network of Euro-Mediterranean logistics platforms
Cairo, 8th October 2012. After having visited Morocco and Tunisia in May 2012, an UfM delegation headed by Deputy Secretary General Ambassador Alpogan visited Egypt with the aim to raise awareness on the UfM project “Training Activities under the Program on the Development of a Network of Euro-Mediterranean Logistics Platforms (LOGISMEDTA)”, as well as to ensure the co-ownership of the Egyptian government.
The Delegation met with the Minister of Transport H.E. Mohamed Rashad, who declared that Egypt was ready to launch the training programme of the LOGISMEDTA project, and announced that the Ministry of Transport will provide a financial symbolic contribution of 50.000€. The Minister highlighted the importance of LOGISMEDTA not only for the logistic platform but also for the development of the maritime hub of East Port Said.
LOGISMEDTA will develop a common reference framework for logistics jobs and a common model for logistics courses as well as activities enabling knowledge transfer and exchange of best practices; it will create a pool of itinerant trainers and student exchange programmes; constitute a network of trainers and experts at various levels who will lead the transformation of the transport and logistics sectors and create an Euro-Mediterranean market of logistic specialists; improve the level of qualifications in the logistics sector by reinforcing logistics training structures in Southern Mediterranean Member Countries, as well as improve and harmonise the transport and logistics sectors to accelerate economic development in Southern Mediterranean countries.
The Delegation also held talks with H.E. Ambassador Marawan Badr, Adviser to the Minister of Planning and International Cooperation; Ms. Mahitab Magdy El Manawy, Economic Researcher; H.E. Ambassador Ramzy Ezzeldin, First Undersecretary of the Minister of Foreign Affairs; and Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Deputy Assistant of Minister of Foreign Affairs for the EU and Western Europe Coordinator for the UfM. All of them expressed their full support to the project and their willingness to ensure the effective coordination of the three Ministries concerned.
