UfM host “Future of Work Workshop”, its first-ever event in Bosnia and Herzegovina
26 September 2024, Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina – The Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), in partnership with the German Development Cooperation and the European Commission, hosted the second edition of the Future of Work Workshop in Sarajevo. The event brought together over 70 participants, including youth, policymakers, and private sector representatives from 22 UfM Member States.
Edin Forto, Bosnia’s Minister of Communications, opened the event, expressing hopes for deeper collaboration with the UfM. Discussions focused on future workforce opportunities and challenges, particularly in green and digital transitions. The European Training Foundation shared insights on global labour market trends and future skills.
Participants highlighted opportunities such as flexible work arrangements and increased access to technology, while addressing challenges like skill gaps and volatile labour markets. Best practices included public-private partnerships, policy reform, and integrating career guidance into education.
The workshop responds to the 2022 UfM Ministerial Declaration on Employment and Labour, addressing employment challenges in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the International Labour Organisation’s push for a green economy transition.
Next Steps
The workshop’s outcomes will inform the 2025 UfM Ministerial on Employment and Labour and the UfM Med4Jobs Stakeholders Dialogue in December 2024.
