Barcelona, 19 May 2022.  The Union for the Mediterranean organised a Regional Dialogue Meeting in the framework of the 3rd UNESCO World Higher Education Conference (WHEC2022), held in Barcelona from 18 to 20 may. The meeting was an opportunity for qualified exchanges between representatives from Ministries of Higher Education of the UfM Member States, the European Commission, and key regional partner organizations and relevant academic stakeholders. The UfM meeting of Senior Officials on 21 October endorsed the R&I platform proposal to hold an R&I Ministerial. 27 to 29 October 2021. An Online Workshop entitled “Increasing Awareness of Science Diplomacy in The Mediterranean” was held by the UfM from 27 to 29 October with the support of CREAF. This training programme was aimed at exploring how regional multi-stakeholder cooperation across the Mediterranean can help achieve long-term sustainability and prosperity in the region through science and innovation. The Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) Secretary General Nasser Kamel met with the President of the Euro-Mediterranean University (EMUNI), Prof. Abdelhamid El-Zoheiry, to reaffirm the UfM’s commitment to the institution. EMUNI conducts accredited study programmes and quality research serving Euro-Mediterranean interests and addressing regional challenges, as well as contributing to a dynamic network of higher education and research institutions as an inclusive platform for inter-cultural dialogue and science diplomacy in the region. The UfM Regional Platform in Research and Innovation has approved new research agendas for the Mediterranean, on Climate Change, Health, and Renewable Energy. The Platform launched a call for a new ministerial meeting and the creation of an impactful implementation plan for its agendas.
