27 October 2021, Barcelona. The Union for the Mediterranean, ARLEM, UNEP/MAP and MedCities are organizing a regional workshop on City to city cooperation. The meeting will be held in the UfM’s headquarters in Barcelona in a hybrid format on 27 October 2021.
City to city cooperation continues to be a promising framework for knowledge and good governance transfer among cities. Since the twinning programs started decades ago, cooperation among cities has evolved to transfer successful practices along territories. The Mediterranean has been a region in which city cooperation has been a powerful tool, giving birth to the creation of networks of cities, regional programs, EU initiatives and even networks of networks. The recently endorsed Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) Strategic Urban Development Action Plan 2040 establishes a common vision for addressing urban challenges in the region and aims to enable local authorities to work in a more systematic and coherent way towards achieving overarching goals in sustainable urban development.
This event aims at fostering peer learning through the exchange of experiences, tools, concepts, and frameworks for sustainable integrated development, based on successful experiences in city-to-city cooperation from the perspective of cities and institutions, with the goal to inspire future practices at regional level.
