12 December 2022 – The first UfM Regional Dialogue Platform Meeting on Civil Protection, will be organized in videoconference on the 12th December 2022, between 14:00 to 17:00 hrs (CEST).
In line with the Paris Declaration of the 13 July 2008 , the 2017 UfM Roadmap, the 3rd UfM Civil Protection Directors-General Meeting, 2019 as well as the renewed priorities for the UfM outlined in 2020, which, inter alia, underscored that: “The UfM Platform on Civil Protection should play a key role in the discussion of the common challenges and the concrete actions to develop, within the Civil Protection Action Plan, strengthened Euro-Mediterranean cooperation on prevention campaigns, emergency response and crisis management”, the UfM plans to commence its work towards the establishment of the first Regional Dialogue Platform on Civil Protection.
Following the relaunch of the UfM civil protection cooperation process via the meeting of the UfM Directors-General in February 2019, whose follow-up enabled the initiation and completion of three (3) working groups, which addressed the following themes: (i) preparing for efficient mutual assistance in the Euro-Mediterranean area; (ii) engaging citizens in disaster risk management and (iii) the role of volunteers in civil protection) between 2019 and 2021, this first meeting of the UfM regional dialogue platform assumes a particular dimension in a post-pandemic and climate change context.
By means of this new space, one hopes that an exchange of views, a concrete discussion and an elaboration of ideas towards mutual cooperation in this field will evolve in connection, interface and complementarity with the European Union’s Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM).
The first meeting of the UfM Regional Dialogue Platform on Civil Protection will be chaired by the UfM Co-Presidency and the European Commission (DG ECHO).
