Cairo, 21-22 October 2026. The UfM with the support of the German Development Cooperation (GIZ) and in close cooperation with the European Commission (DG TRADE and DG TAXUD), will organize a UfM Regional Workshop on the revised Regional Convention on pan-Euro-Mediterranean rules of origin (PEM Convention) scheduled to take place in Cairo, on 21-22 October 2026, under the umbrella of the UfM Economic Forum.
The Workshop is in line with the 2026 UfM Work Programme and anchored to Pillar III of the UfM Vision Statement (Connecting Economies) and Pillar II of the Pact for the Mediterranean (Stronger, more sustainable and integrated economies).
Building on a series of national and regional awareness-raising initiatives carried out in recent years, the workshop forms part of the UfM’s continued efforts to facilitate trade and advance regional economic integration. It will bring together representatives of customs administrations and trade authorities from the Contracting Parties to the PEM Convention, providing a platform to exchange experiences, discuss implementation challenges, and share best practices on the application of the revised rules of origin.
The two-day programme will provide an in-depth overview of the revised PEM Convention, highlighting the key substantive and procedural changes introduced by the new rules. Through technical presentations, practical exercises and interactive discussions, participants will strengthen their understanding of the revised framework and its practical application.
