Discussions focused on possible ways of cooperation between Hungary and the Secretariat and the role that the private sector could play in it.
During a working visit to Nicosia, UfM Secretary General Sijilmassi held a bilateral meeting with Foreign Affairs Minister Kozakou-Marcoullis and participated at the 12th Facility for Euro-Mediterranean Investment and Partnership (FEMIP) Conference. Cyprus currently holds the Presidency of the Council of the EU.
Secretary General Sijilmassi met with Jordanian ministers and high officials during his visit to Amman. Jordan will assume the southern co-presidency of the Union for the Mediterranean for a two-year term.
The UfM Secretary General and the Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs discussed steps forward to enhance cooperation between Greece and the UfM in the fields of energy, maritime transport, environment and water. Greece will hold the Presidency of the Council of the European Union from 1st January 2014
“Italy is committed to support the Union for the Mediterranean. Its existing structure constitutes an added-value that will bring immediate benefits, leverage the small and medium-sized enterprises’ sector and increase the confidence in the Euro-Mediterranean cooperation”
During the 20th French Annual Ambassadors’ Conference, President Hollande said: “My priority is to develop what I call a Mediterranean of projects… I want the expertise of the Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean to be used at maximum”
Secretary General Sijilmassi addressed the audience in a panel devoted to “Partnership and Institution Building in the Southern Mediterranean”.
