Final exploratory seminar on e-signatures for e-business transactions in the Southern Mediterranean region
22-23 January 2014. Union for the Mediterranean headquarters. Palau de Pedralbes, Barcelona.
Building on the success of the first seminar on e-signatures for e- business transactions in the Southern Mediterranean region in November 2013 in Amman, the European Commission organises, in cooperation with the UfM Secretariat, the second and final follow-up seminar.
In Amman, over 85 public and private stakeholders from around 20 countries were able to identify the state of play in the deployment of e-signatures and trust services, common business and administration needs, international best practices, potential instruments for future actions and possible tracks for future actions to foster e-business transactions in the Southern Mediterranean region.
In Barcelona, the seminar will focus on some of the key findings and discuss possible stakeholder recommendations. Some of the common themes highlighted during the 1st seminar include ideas on a Euromed interlocutors network to favour information exchanges on e-trust services, national “trusted lists” and their recognition, stocktaking exercises on e-trust services in MENA, eGov services that may benefit most from e-signature, the general usage of e-trust services by businesses in MENA, convergence of laws, mutual recognition of e-trust services, standards and platforms, open source software solutions for trust services, the need to ease access to best practice on e-trust services, as well as a common political vision in this area.
