Barcelona, 23 April, 2013. The UfM Secretariat hosted from 23 to 25 April a seminar organized by the College of Europe on “the Euro‐Mediterranean Partnership and the Union for the Mediterranean”. This seminar is part of an EC funded project targeting EU neighbouring countries. The general objective is to enhance the professional skills of relevant staff from public administrations of these countries and to enable them to gain a better understanding of the European Neighbourhood Policy and other relevant EU policies.
This year it was agreed to organize the seminar for southern Mediterranean countries at the premises of the UfM Secretariat with special focus on the UfM, to offer the opportunity of better knowing the projects and activities of the Secretariat, as well as to establish direct contacts between the Secretariat and the representatives of technical ministries attending the seminar. There are 30 participants from the following countries: Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine and Tunisia.
The Secretary General made the welcome address in which he presented the mission and objectives of the Secretariat which aims at enhancing regional cooperation in the Mediterranean and delivering concrete projects with tangible results that meet the needs of the population. He outlined the main principles which govern the activities of the Secretariat and announced the launching of three projects during the first semester of 2013: Young Women for Job Creation; Mediterranean Water Governance; and Training Activities for the Regional Logistics Network (LOGSIMEDTA). Other projects will be finalized and launched by the end of this year.
