Union for the Mediterranean Trade Ministerial Meeting
Brussels, 19 March 2018. – The UfM Trade Ministerial Meeting will take place in Brussels the 19 March 2018 and will gather the 43 Trade Ministers of the Union for the Mediterranean Member States.
The Conference is expected to develop initiatives to facilitate and increase trade and investment flows, in order to enhance and strengthen the mutually-beneficial economic integration process in the Mediterranean region. The meeting will address several trade-related priority areas and propose actions in the fields of conformity assessment and acceptance of industrial products (ACAAs) and the fight against illicit trade and counterfeiting, among others.
The level of regional economic integration in the Euro-Mediterranean region remains amongst the lowest in the world. Of all trade flows occurring in the region, 90 percent are within the European Union, 9 percent between the North and the South, and only 1 percent among Southern and Eastern Mediterranean countries themselves. The potential for an increased integration is huge and would bring significant benefits for the region.
