2nd TAIEX Multi-Regional Workshop on Energy Efficiency in Buildings

4-6 October 2023, Paris (France) – The “2nd TAIEX Multi-Regional Workshop on Energy Efficiency in Buildings” is a 3-day workshop co-organised with the Union for the Mediterranean and the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion of France. The workshop, which will be held in Paris, France on 4-6 October 2023, targets Southern Neighbourhood and Western Balkan countries and its aim is to present the experience of France and Spain on energy regulations and policies in the building sector, as well as to exchange information with the beneficiary countries on lessons learned and shared challenges for the future.
The first day will be dedicated to the presentation and overview of national requirements for new buildings, the second day will focus on public policies on energy renovation of buildings, and the third day will focus on energy renovation of heritage buildings.
The first day will be also the occasion for a High-Level discussion on the Buildings Breakthrough Initiative, a global initiative on Energy Efficiency in Buildings strongly supported by France, related actions within COP28, and the road to the Global Forum Buildings and Climate, to be held in Paris in March 2024.
Experts will share experiences and best practices concerning several aspects: the regulatory framework for energy efficiency in buildings (including requirements for new buildings, minimum standards, the Energy Performance Certificate, transposition of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, etc.), national strategies to support building renovation and funding programs and financial schemes.
Several examples from new buildings using environmentally friendly materials (wood, biobased materials), urban regeneration projects in Paris suburbs, and heritage buildings renovation projects in Paris center will be presented in detail, and 2 field trips will give the opportunity to visit them on-site.
The meeting is organized in coordination with the EU-funded projects Meet-Med (Mitigation Enabling Energy Transition in the Med region) and PEEB-Med (Programme on Energy Efficiency in Buildings), and it builds on the previous workshop on energy efficiency in buildings hosted by Spanish Authorities in Madrid, in 5-7 July 2022.
Target participants are decision-makers and experts of the national administration dealing with energy efficiency in the building sector from the ministries dealing with housing and housing renovation policies and programs. Country representatives are expected to actively participate in the discussions.
