11-12 December 2024, Cairo (Egypt) – In response to the ongoing geopolitical tensions and their profound economic impacts, the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), with the support of the German Development Cooperation, will organize a Seminar on Refugee entrepreneurship in Cairo on December 11-12, 2024. This event aims to explore the vital role that entrepreneurship can play in both conflict and post-conflict recovery, addressing the urgent need for innovative solutions and economic empowerment in affected communities.
Conflicts not only lead to significant human suffering but also hinder economic development through declining GDP, rising inflation, and disrupted supply chains, affecting the region as a whole. In light of these challenges, the Seminar will serve as a platform for dialogue and best practices sharing among stakeholders from across the region, including policymakers, entrepreneurs, and civil society representatives.
The UfM is dedicated to fostering peace, stability, and shared economic prosperity in the region, recognizing entrepreneurship as a vital avenue for economic recovery and a strong catalyst for social cohesion and community resilience. Outcomes from the Seminar will inform future UfM initiatives, including targeted capacity-building programs, mentorship opportunities, and enhanced access to financing for entrepreneurs and businesses operating in challenging environments.
