The UfM & RCREEE sign a Memorandum of Understanding
Cairo-The Regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE) and the Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfMS), signed an agreement, on November 2nd 2011, aimed to strengthen their collaboration, principally in the areas of policy and regulatory frameworks at national and regional levels.
The RCREEE will be working with the UfMS to develop the Master Plan of the Mediterranean Solar Plan (MSP), a flagship initiative of the UfM, aimed at boosting development and deployment of renewable energies and energy efficiency technologies, through the construction of 20 GW new generation capacities of renewable energy by 2020, in the Mediterranean region and mainly in the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean Countries.
The RCREEE will act as a regional partner of the UfM, and will proceed to facilitate the implementation of the MSP in terms of policy development and advocacy work, awareness rising, agenda setting, and dissemination of initiatives and concepts.
The UfM and the RCREEE will mainly cooperate in developing the MSP in the areas of policy and regulatory frameworks at national and regional levels including national or regional RCREEE political commitments, strategies, policy targets and instruments.
The agreement also foresees the support of various initiatives including investment promotion and public private partnerships (PPP), research development and demonstration (RD&D), as well as capacity and network building, with an overall objective of achieving an integrated market for clean energy and completing the elaboration of the MSP by end of 2012.
