Secondments

The UfM Secretariat based in Barcelona is the operational platform of the Union for the Mediterranean. Our staff is made of more than 17 nationalities working in a multicultural environment that offers an interesting and dynamic workplace where people can achieve their professional goals

How to apply?

Individuals interested in undertaking a secondment at the UfMS should apply by sending an e-mail to hr.secondment@ufmsecretariat.org including a clear mention of the profile applied for. The following documents should be attached to the e-mail:

  • A CV in English (pdf format only);
  • A motivation letter in English in a separate document (pdf format only);
  • A cover letter from the sending administration (institution/ministry) *. In case the employer is not the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a written approval (letter or e-mail) from the UfM Senior Official of the concerned Member State, or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs itself, should accompany the cover letter.

The applications are screened against minimum eligibility requirements** taking into account the expertise, experience, competencies and compliance of the candidate with the job descriptionof the requested profile.

* Prior to any application for a secondment the individual must obtain the approval/consent of his/her employer.

 **Minimum Eligibility requirements:

Be nationals of a UfM Member State;
Be employed by a national, regional or local public administration or an intergovernmental organization.

Conditions of Secondment

Salary, Social Insurance, Pension Contributions, Welfare Benefits and Family Allowances 

The applicant´s sending administration is responsible for the salary, the social security, the pension, the health insurance and any cost associated with the relocation of the Seconded Official (including the cost for the removal of personal effects and household goods incurred on assumption of duty and on cessation of service). 

Special Accreditation for International Organization Staff Members

Assistance for the accreditation is provided by the UfMS in cooperation with the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs to facilitate the initial relocation to Spain of the UfMS staff and their dependent family members. All  information on corresponding benefits and privileges is available on the Practical Guide for the Diplomatic Corps accredited in Spain.

Duration of the assignment

By default, the assignment duration is of 3 years, renewable up to a maximum of 6 years. The assignment duration and extension can be  subject to the Sending Administration Regulation with the limit that the maximum period of a Secondment shall not exceed a total period of 6 years. 

Formalization of the Secondment

All terms and conditions of the Secondment will be formalized by means of an Agreement signed by both parties (Sending Administration and the UfMS) once the selection process is concluded.
